India Commercial Project: Partnership with Ankur Biochem

India, with a projected population of 1.4 billion, is expected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country this year. The country is also closing the gap with China in becoming Asia’s most promising economic powerhouse due to its pro-business environment and improved infrastructure.

Meridian Biotech has partnered with Ankur Biochem Private Ltd, one of India’s largest biochemical companies.  Ankur Biochem plans to build three additional facilities within the next two years with additional feedstock for the Meridian-Ankur partnership.

Meridian has entered into a research agreement with Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) to conduct shrimp growth and survival and others studies. KUFOS is the first university in India dedicated to fisheries and ocean studies and is considered to be the country’s premier institute to conduct shrimp and fish trials by multinational aquaculture feed companies and farmers.  India is currently the largest shrimp exporter in the world, accounting for around 23% of the total global shrimp trade.
